First day of my trip!

Friday July 3, 2009, 12:59 AM.

That's a picture of when Mackenzie (the other girl who came to Taiwan) and me were on the airport bus going to our terminal in Narita, Japan.

I’m finally in Taiwan after a 10-hour flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Narita, Japan. I’m in my dorm now, writing and thinking about how I should go to sleep. It’s hot and humid but I think I’ll get used to it (or I hope I will). When I got to the airport I went through customs and got my bags and when I went into the main airport area there were people waiting for me. One was a girl probably my age and she was holding a really nice sign that said ‘Welcome Sarah Baergen!’ She told me that she was entering it in a sign contest and hoped it would win first place (I think it will, because it’s really nice. I didn’t take a picture of it but it had clouds on it and a yellow plane and it was really good and cute).

The other person who was waiting for me took pictures of it though. I got a little tour of the town and it looks really nice. There’s a part of the city that’s lots of signs and shops and stuff and then there’s apartments and other buildings like that. I like Taiwan so far and my roommate, Olivia (she made the sign, and Olivia's the English name she picked; her Chinese name is Fong, and I may or may not have spelled that right) seems really nice. We went to a 7-11 and I got a bottle of water. The taxi ride was fun; I haven’t been in taxis much. The driver was nice and we talked a little bit, just saying hello and thank you. I was constantly trying to buckle myself in but there was just the seat belt and the buckle either wasn't there or was way down in the seat. Nothing life threatening happened though, and I'll just have to get used to no seatbelt. I'll use the crash positions they tell you about on the plane. :)

Well that’s all for now. I have some pictures and I will try to put them up soon. There was a huge shiny green beetle on the ceiling in the shower room, so I got my camera and took a few pictures of him.

One of the supervisors said I’d be busy tomorrow, so I am going to bed now, but at least I slept on the plane and got rest then (I was asleep when the plane was landing and woke up when it touched down).

  1. Sarah-this is a great first day blog. I like how you included details about the flight. The part about the seat belt is hilarious. I think that the seat belt issue will be a recurring theme during your Taiwan visit.
